Your Internet Connection as a Medical Transcriptionist - Does it Matter?

I already talked in the Common Denominator blog that all three types of transcription (medical, legal, and general) will want you to have high-speed Internet if at all possible, and that you may not get hired on at some transcription companies if all you have is dial-up.

If you're way out in the boonies, your only other choice for an Internet connection other than dial-up will often be satellite. Although I have never heard of a satellite connection as being a problem if you're applying to become a legal or general transcriptionist, it can be, depressingly, a problem with you becoming a medical transcriptionist. Not always, but sometimes.

This is because in the medical field, some companies believe that the satellite connection isn't as secure. This belief is (very) slowly changing, and more medical transcription companies are allowing a satellite connection now than ever before. But bear in mind that if your only choices for an Internet connection is either satellite or dial-up, your search for a medical transcription job may be longer than you had hoped for.
