Trying to find a job? Not sure what field to go into? When you are just looking around you or at the "help wanted" ads in the newspaper, it is hard to recognize trends in employment. That's why "Top 10" lists can be helpful. Some wonderful people (who are much better at math and statistics than I am!) take the time to compile the information and generate lists of growing industries.

This resource gives us the opportunity to see what is going on in the job market and we can use that information in several different ways. First, for those young people who are entering the workforce for the first time, these are the fields to go into! If you have a child or grandchild who is about to graduate from high school, then take note. These are the industries where people are hiring and analysts project that they will continue to hire for several years to come. In addition to the young person just starting out, if you are planning on returning to the workforce after an absence or if you are thinking about a career change, then this is helpful information to consider.

What are these top 10 jobs? A recent article on careerbuilder.com talked about the ten fields that experienced the most growth in 2005.

Here is their list of the Top 10 Jobs in 2005

1.Medical Assistants

2.Network Systems and Data Communications Analysts

3.Physician Assistants

4.Social and Human Service Assistants

5.Home Health Aides

6.Medical Records and Health Information Technicians

7.Physical Therapist Aides

8.& 9. Computer Software Engineers, Systems Software & Applications Personnel

Over the next few weeks, I will be writing a series of blogs about each of these careers. The blogs will cover the training you need and how to get it, what salary to expect and other information.
