Baby Blog Month in Review: August 2008

Isn’t it crazy the way babies grow so quickly? It seems that you just get used to one stage and boom they are already into another. Tonight, were busy getting the household all set for my eldest child’s first day of second grade. My two younger ones are excited and want to start school, too. It will be a busy month. Don’t worry about the missing last week of blogs. I’ve gotten quite a few questions about where I have been. The Baby Blog tends to go on hiatus the last week of the month. That may change in the … Continue reading

But They Were Married in the Temple

We place a lot of emphasis on getting married in the temple. We teach about it in Family Home Evening, Primary, Young Men’s and Young Women’s. Our focus as an LDS people is to be temple worthy and remain temple worthy throughout our lives. Unfortunately, as we talk about temple marriage, sometimes we forget one very important thing – temple marriage gives us the opportunity to be together forever. It is not a guarantee. My parents were divorced when I was a teenager. They had been married in the temple and my sisters and I were all born in the … Continue reading

Free Agency in Children

I’m in a curious stage in my motherhood. Half my children are old enough to make many of their own choices and to either suffer the consequences or reap the rewards. The other half are still young enough that I need to guide them and flat out make some of their choices for them. It’s difficult when you’re trying to explain to a child why they don’t get to make a certain choice for themselves. They don’t know how much they don’t know, and they get frustrated and sometimes belligerent when they feel you’re running their lives for them. But … Continue reading

The Temp Agency: What I Liked About It

In looking for flexibility in employment, I found temp agencies tend to be a great option. When first on my own and seeking employment, I thought I’d stop into our local Kelly Services. I was interviewed quickly and called with a position within a couple days. Assignments given varied from a week to indefinitely. For entry level work, the wages paid were competitive. I felt it was a great opportunity to meet other people, and learn a bit about how various companies work. If you need certain days off, you can let your manager know that you will not be … Continue reading

Don’t Tolerate Bullying By Bill Collectors

Are you feeling like you receive more phone calls from bill collectors than you’re your friends and family combined? You may avoid picking up the phone because you do not feel like there is anything that you can do about the debt, so why bother. Unfortunately, bill collectors are allowed to call you in an attempt to collect money from you. Fortunately, there are rules that they must … Continue reading

Are You Giving Your Kids the Kiss of Death?

I am more J.Crew than JLo or JWoww. I prefer khakis to skinny jeans and respectable cardigans to revealing camisoles. And that goes double for cosmetics. If it were not for the fact that I have skin like a Shar-Pei and a daughter that I am forced not to embarrass in public, I would probably go without make-up every. single. day. While I am far from a Japanese Kabuki actor, I do apply some foundation, mascara and eyeliner on days I am required to venture beyond my driveway. If I forget to add one or more of the aforementioned cosmetics … Continue reading

Rabbit Saves Family from Fire

Maybe I’m a little biased for headlines that contain the word “saves” and the name of an animal. Whether it’s one animal saving another, an animal doing so for a human, or humans returning the favor, I’m a sucker for these stories. So if I post too often on the topic let me know in the comments section below, along with suggestions for the types of stories you’d rather see more often. If I don’t hear to the contrary, then I’ll just assume you all love these tales as much as I do. Today I’ve got what’s certainly one of … Continue reading

Big Bad Bill Collectors Beware

If you dread looking at your called ID every time the phone rings, chances are that you are in debt and you do not want to talk to the bill collectors that are calling (and calling, and calling). Although bill collectors are allowed to call you in an attempt to collect money from you, there are rules that they must follow. Many bill collectors do follow the rules, but some are unscrupulous and use bad business practices to kick you when you’re down. Here’s the scoop on what bill collectors can and cannot do. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act … Continue reading
