Job Site Name/Link: Monster.com

Basics: To start out, I wouldn't bother to use keywords. Instead, select from the drop-down lists marked "Select Job Category" and "Select Job Location". Once you have selected these then you will be taken to a page that has a listings of all of the jobs in that category in that location. Now is the time to use the keyword search. You can also enter your zip code and within how wide of a radius you want to search.

Pros: My favorite thing about this site is the "Job Search Agents" option. With this, you can actually save your searches and receive emails from Monster.com when a new job that fits your requirements is posted. Basically, they do the work for you. To use these you will need to register with the website. Once you do that, go to the "Find Jobs" tab and click on "Job Search Agents". The directions from there are fairly self explanatory. You can set up agents for several different sources in several different categories.

This site is great when you are looking for positions with big employers - usually those who are spread out nationally or over several states. If you want to work for a big company then this is a good place to look. It is also good if you are relocating to another city and want to know what is available in that city.

Cons: This is not a good place to look for local jobs with smaller companies. Since the site is national, it has less traffic from small businesses and organizations. If you choose to use Monster.com, then make sure you supplement your job search with job sites that are based in your local area.

Also, Monster can be overwhelming because it is so big. Don't let that scare you. Take advantage of the job agents and remember to supplement with other sites.

The Bottom Line: The most valuable part of Monster.com is the job search agents. You may want to check back occasionally to make sure there are not jobs that are being overlooked by the job agents that you have set up.
