Reason #176 I Love Working at Homeby Hava Lyon | More from this Blogger 09 Apr 2007 08:00 PM Reason #176 I love working at home? I don't actually have to be at home to do it. As I sit and type this, I am at my parent's house, three hours from home. My in-laws are on their way to a conference, and they offered to let me tag along for the ride, in order to visit my parents. It wasn't out of their way (my parents only live two minutes off the freeway, so it was easy to drop me off and keep going) but it was still awfully nice of my in-laws to make the offer. They certainly didn't have to. On the car ride over, I had lots of time to think, and I realized that just a few short weeks ago, I would have had to turn them down. When I worked at my old bricks-and-mortar job, my boss had a coronary every time I took even an extra hour off to go do errands (like eye exams and the like. You know, the "optional stuff" that I should "do on my own time," as if optometrists are open after hours.) I never would have gotten a day and a half off to run off to my parent's house. And even if I could have, I would have felt guilty for taking the time off and inconveniencing others. When I work at home though, no one cares if that means I'm actually at home, or just any place with an Internet connection and a power supply. Perhaps I should make up some business cards, "Have Laptop, Will Travel." Of course, this is all going to end in just a few short weeks when I go back to school to become a teacher, darn it. I fully plan on enjoying it until then though. And on that note, I am off to go raid my parent's fridge. Wheee--free food!
