Last Minute Gift Ideas For Your Co-Workers-Good Eats

In a previous blog I listed some gift ideas you don't want to bestow upon your office mates. Then I wrote a blog about some gift ideas that may be welcomed with open arms. I received a comment from a reader about one of my favorites---FOOD! The reader and I both agree that when it comes to last minute gift ideas edible treats are the way to go. After all, according to retail analysts, food is a hot commodity this holiday season. What's more, everybody eats, so how can you go wrong?

That said; if you are still hunting for the perfect gift for your colleagues you may want to consider some of the following:

Bacon. Unless your co-worker is a vegetarian or doesn't eat pork, bacon may be the way to go. The nice thing about bacon is the price. You can find quality bacon for as little as a few bucks a pound.

Smoked Salmon. It's great for those vegetarians and non-pork eaters on your list. Smoked salmon has a very nice flavor and the best part---all you have to do is open it up and it's ready to eat.

Honey. There are dozens of different varieties on the market. I recently had one made from the star thistle. It's supposedly the champagne of honeys. It's smooth and light and the best part--it's affordable. It also makes a great addition to a fruit basket.

Strawberry Jam. It's another way to spread good cheer. You don't have to spend a ton of money to find a quality strawberry jam (the good ones make you feel as though you are eating fresh fruit straight off the vine).

Aged, Balsamic Vinegar. It makes a great addition to any gift basket...and happens to be one of my favorite gifts to give and receive. Balsamic vinegar is so versatile it can be used for a main course or drizzled on some fruit for dessert.

Speaking of desserts... what sweet-toothed co-worker wouldn't love to dive into fresh ginger snaps, red velvet cake, or homemade fudge? And don't forget regional cuisine. I live in Wisconsin, which means cheese, syrup, and smoked meats are popular gift choices. If you live in Georgia you may consider gifting pralines or peaches.
