A Question A Week: My Readers’ Blogs

This is ongoing series where I ask a question a week to my readers so I can get to know them better. To see the post where this all started, check this out. I blog for a living, which is kind of a fun thing to say, and even better, it’s true! 😛 My main income comes from blogging here at Families, and I supplement that income through various odd jobs for various companies. I am a freelancer in every sense of the word. I have a lot of fun working as a freelancer, and of course one of the … Continue reading

Are You A Freelance Writer? Have You Tried Blogging?

Whether you are new to freelance writing or you are looking to expand your skill set, I would like to recommend that you give blogging a try. You may be wondering whether there is a place for your unique voice in a group blog or collection of blogs. I know that I was asking myself that very question when I started out. The answer to that question does, of course, depend upon the individual and also upon what blogs are looking for writers and what kind of writers they are looking for. Nonetheless, I would like to encourage you to … Continue reading

My Last Blog

This is going to be my last blog as the Adoption Blogger for Families.com. I’m looking forward to spending the summer with my kids, possibly working at their school, and taking on new writing projects. I may well guest blog occasionally for this or other Families blogs. It seems the Adoption Blog will continue, so I hope this blog, along with Families’ forums, can be a source of information and community for adoptive parents, adoptees, and birth parents. Yesterday I could think of a million things to say in my last few blogs and wondered how I would fit it … Continue reading

The Marriage Blog Week in Review for July 7-13

Poor Lyn has been quite the champ while I’ve been away. She took over covering Week in Reviews every week, instead of every other. (Thanks again, Lyn!) But now I’m back to resume my share of the duties. (Albeit I’m a wee bit off schedule this week.) At any rate, here’s a recap of what Lyn, Heather, and I wrote about on: Monday, July 7 Lyn shared more about relating to your man and the importance of it. She also examined issues of compatibility. Tuesday, July 8 Lyn wondered if verbal affairs were just as detrimental as physical ones. Lyn … Continue reading

Fatherhood Blog in Review – July 15

I’m very excited about putting the ‘male perspective’ out there for our Families members. I hope you have enjoyed reading my blogs this week as much as I have enjoyed writing them. I certainly welcome your comments, feedback, and questions. My favorite blog of the week had to be the one entitled Penny a Minute. In it, I reminisced about a treasured activity that I shared with my father, that I hope my own children will also enjoy with him in years to come. Based on some of the comments that this blog received so far, many readers have had … Continue reading

Blogging for Pay

Since I have come home to work, I have done a variety of jobs, and the steadiest income from those jobs has been from blogging. There are a lot of people who make a heck of a lot more than I do from blogging (think six figures here) but although I may not make the most, I think I still have lots to share with anyone who is looking into getting into the blogging business themselves. The more I learn, the more surprised I am at how much I didn’t know when I first got started. I stumbled around pretty … Continue reading

A Question A Week: Any Budding Novelists Out There?

This is ongoing series where I ask a question a week to my readers. To see the post where this all started, check this out. As a freelance writer, I have found that I almost always have one or two stories in the back of my mind, screaming to come out. 😉 I finished a short story (memoir-type story on my great-grandmother) a month or so ago, and submitted it to a magazine in hopes of having it published. I am waiting, not so patiently, for a response. Print work, such as magazines and newspapers, generally pay a lot more … Continue reading
