One of the most important parts of writing an effective resume is the objective statement. Simply listing your experience, doesn't let your potential future employer know what your long term goals are. It also doesn't let your employer know what type of position you're looking for.

I realize that every office is different and some are more casual than others. However, every job that you ever have should be viewed, at the very least, as a networking opportunity, if not a rung in the ladder.

Internships, are generally unpaid positions (or they pay very little) doing necessary but menial work in a particular field. Generally they are offered college students. Despite their lack of pay, this is one invaluable experience that you shouldn't pass up if given the opportunity.

Like it or not, most offices are full of some type of politics. Even non-traditional offices like a school for example, still require that you play the diplomat in political 'games'. In my opinion, office politics is a rather disdainful term for savvy networking.
